Cooling Fan Tutorial (v0.1) Tutorial
written by : MartialXboxArtist

This
was all I used to cut the side of the case. It was easy due to how soft the plastic
was. You will also need a TORX 20 screw driver and a TORX 10.
You
will need this and can be bought at CompUSA. LINK Don't forget to CUT the arms
off the fan unit because it is not needed and is too long to be kept on. I used
an industrial strength permanent marker to color it BLACK. You can paint it other
ways, but be careful not to get any on the dust filter that slides out in front.

Before
starting this mod, I HIGHLY recommend that you make the stock fan blowing air
out in the back into a 12v fan. If you haven't noticed, MS made it run at only
7v to quiet it down. All you have to do is unplug the power cord, connect longer
wires then connect it to the HDD power cord. You can merge it with the cool fan
wires if you want, either way will work. Also buy yourself one of
those cheap wrist band that grounds you out, so you don't shock your Xbox out!

A TORX 20 screw driver will be needed for removing the case screws. The
fan will sit on the right side of the casing when you look at your Xbox from the
front. You will need a tool like this
to
cut the case. You can always use a tool that you personally like, but that is
what I used. 1. Starting from the front, count 15 side post going back then
MARK IT, so you don't over cut. 2. Measure 2 2/16th of an inch from the bottom
up and mark it. 3. Now carefully cut side out to accommodate the fans.
This
is OPTIONAL, but I recommend it. It will increase the cooling a lot more, but
like I said, this is optional. All you have to do is remove the Power Supply,
so you don't get any metal pieces from getting in the power supply. There are
TWO screws that secures the unit down. They are both located close to the motherboard
side. The screw in the front is kind of hidden by the wires. You will need a TORX
10 screw driver to remove the screws. After the screws are removed, SLIDE the
unit towards the FRONT of the casing and then carefully lift up and out.
Here,
you will need to align the FAN UNIT with the TOP casing that you've cut apart
a couple of steps ago. I used strong DOUBLE SIDED TAPE to mount the fan. You can
use screws if you want, but it's not needed. You can get the tape at any stores.
It's the tape you use to put up the those plastic around the window to keep the
cold air out.
Now
you will need to place the wire, so it will fit snuggly with the main HDD power
cord. It's not hard to do at all, you will know how to do this by just looking
at my pictures. Just weave the fan's wire to sit on top of the HDD cord. Make
sure that the wires you tuck down in front of the case doesn't get sliced when
you close the lid. That's where you need to be careful.
This
is the LAST step! (o: Carefully slide the case down on the fan not to push it
out of place if you used double sided tape. And that's it, this is a no brainer
here, so I won't say much more on this step. Finished Mod!
