How to setup Evolution-X with
bios that boots ybox/evoxdash.xbe (v0.1)

What is ybox/evox?
Ybox/Evox is a modified version of the Evolution-X
bios. Originally the EvoX team set up their bios to
boot to xboxdash.xbe. Well with Xbox Live updates this
resorted to some problems. With ybox/evox, users are
able to boot their Xbox up to yboxdash.xbe/evoxdash.xbe.
Basically ybox lets us boot to our dashboard while we
leave Microsoft’s dashboard untouched. That way
Xbox Live can update it all it want and we are prepared
for Xbox Live.
What you need:
· Modified EvoX bios (ybox) (1.8.2594 - 1.8.2812
or later)
· You obviously need a modified Xbox. All modchips
work with EvoX. If unsure about modchips check out the
modchip page here.
· You need an EvoX iso. If you downloaded an
already made iso then you're fine. If you want to assign
your Xbox its own IP address then you must edit the
evox.ini. You can simply extract the EvoX iso and use
default.xbe but you must edit the evox.ini file. If
you don’t know how to make an iso or extract an
iso check out the tutorials. To burn an iso with Nero
or PrimoDVD check their respected tutorials.
· FTP Client for PC to be able to connect to
Xbox. (I use FlashFXP but you can use whatever you’d
like) For networking help go here.
Step 1
You should already have your modchip flashed with the
‘hacked’ bios with the ybox/evox hack and
it should already be installed. (Obviously it won’t
boot because you don’t have yboxdash.xbe/evoxdash.xbe
on your hard drive yet) Make an iso with EvoX’s
default.xbe and evox.ini unless already have that iso.
Step 2
If unsure on networking settings please get help here.
If you follow that tutorial you can easily just edit
your own evox.ini and make it a lot easier on yourself.
If you want to assign your Xbox its own IP address then
you must edit the evox.ini file in order to do so. If
doing so I would assign it a private IP address. Example
192.168.xxx.xxx. I did mine in correlation to my computer.
My computer's IP is 192.168.1.3, my server being 192.168.1.4,
I picked 192.168.1.5 for my Xbox.
When setting up your evox.ini file you want to make
sure network settings are correct. If they aren't correct
could result in time being wasted. Here is an example
of my evox.ini networking settings.
[Misc]
AutoLaunchGames = No
AutoLaunchDVD = No
DVDPlayer = "f:\applications\dvdx\default.xbe"
AutoLaunchAudio = Yes
#AudioPlayer = "c:\xboxdash.xbe"
MSDashBoard = "c:\xboxdash.xbe"
UseFDrive = Yes
SkinName = XMatriX
[Network]
SetupNetwork = Yes
StaticIP = Yes
Ip = 192.168.1.005
Subnetmask = 255.255.255.0
Defaultgateway = 192.168.1.1
DNS1 = 0.0.0.0
DNS2 = 0.0.0.0
Once you have evox.ini configured and then made both
files into an iso burn them. Pop the CDRW/DVDRW into
your Xbox and boot it up. It should boot to EvoX dash.
If it didn’t boot to EvoX dash you either:
* Made the iso wrong
* Your media is bad
* Bad burn (burn as slow as possible)
* mod chip isn't enabled or not adjusted correctly
* You just plain suck :P
Step 3
Once booted with the EvoX CDRW/DVDRW, connect to your
Xbox via FTP.

In the quick connect menu simply type in the IP you
provided in the evox.ini or the Xbox provided in the
network settings in EvoX (DHCP Server only).
(Remember username and password are both Xbox)

You should get something that looks like this on the
right side.

Now on the left side you'll want to specify where you
want to save your backup C and E.
Then select C and E by holding down the CTRL key and
right click on C or E while both are selected and click
transfer.
Then you will see partitions C and E successfully copied.

click image for full view (it will open in a new window)
From there click on the C drive on the Xbox hard drive
(right side of the screen).
It should look like this.

Select your default.xbe and evox.ini
from the iso you made earlier or extract from the iso
you already had and right click and select "Transfer
As" to your C:\ partition on your Xbox.

click image for full view
Another window will appear like this. Type yboxdash.xbe
or evoxdash.xbe according to which ever bios you have
and click ok.
Another window will pop up for evox.ini just click ok
for this one.
(If you had a previous configuration of EvoX rename
msxboxdash.xbe back to xboxdash.xbe)
Remove CDRW/DVDRW and reboot your Xbox. It should boot
to EvoX dashboard if not then repeat steps.
Once that is completed you now have ybox successfully
setup on your Xbox.
