IRC channels which may be of use
IRC is a great source for getting information and files.
You'll need a full blown version of a IRC client. I
recommend mIRC from www.mIRC.com
Note: the xbin faq ( http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/xbins.php)
can be used to help setup mIRC ;)

General
LPT programmers can be finicky.. Any combination of issues
can occur due to OS related uniqueness (XP), Version of software,
different/non standard LPT1 hardware or USB ports, incorrect
or dated drivers, and how the LPT port is configured in the
computer bios BIOS & in the OS.
Recommend that if you have issues, that you 1st try another
chip (if you have one spare), then try the programmer on a
different machine and if possible a earlier Operating system
(98SE, W2kPro over XP). This has been known to quickly solve
some of the "It don't work" programmer related issues.
If you're unable to get the modchip detected, then you'll
need to check your LPT port setting and try using different
Parallel port modes (ECP, EPP, ECP/EPP + any sub version options)..
The Parallel port modes can be changed from within the BIOS
setup screen of your PC. Hopefully one of the combinations
will get the programmer to work (sometimes its hit or miss
;)
Additionally, you can try pushing the programmer and mod chip
together where the two items are joined via the LPC
pin header.. Don't apply excessive force which could break
the programmer or modchip, and put something that insulated
electrically between you and where your touching the modchip
and programmer as as not to short anything or shock your self.
XBOX BIOS
- Please be aware that there are different types of alternate
bios's depending on what version of xbox you have..
- SO MAKE SURE THAT THE BIOS YOU"RE FLASHING TO THE
XBOX IS THE CORRECT VERSION FOR YOUR VERSION OF XBOX!!!
Note: There have been reports that you can corrupt your
xbox eeprom if you use a incorrect bios!!
- Xecuter Flashbios 3v00 will work on xbox 1.0 to 1.6a
- Xecuter Flashbios 3v01 will work on xbox 1.0 to 1.6a
- Xecuter Flashbios 3v03 will work on xbox 1.0 to 1.5, and
1.6b (NOT 1.6a!)
X2.6l Modchips
SOFTWARE: X2BM, iXia and X2Cable
SWITCH: YES

- The external switch must be connected and set correctly
for the programmer to be able to program a x2.6l modchip.
Set external modchip switches to Enabled, Flash protect
disabled, bank 1

- The chip female pin header will completely cover all pins
on the programmers male pin header header.

- The chip should look like this when hooked up to the programmer.

- Its recommended that you flash a Flashbios compatible
with your xbox in then 1st 512k bios bank (bank1 on modchip,
banks 1/2 in programmer software) and the alternate bios
of your choosing in the 2nd 512k bios bank (bank2 on modchip,
banks 3/4 in programmer software)
X2.6lce Modchips
SOFTWARE: X2BM, iXia and X2Cable
SWITCH: YES

- The external switch must be connected and set correctly
for the programmer to be able to program a x2.6l modchip.
Set external modchip switches to Enabled, Flash protect
disabled, bank 1

- The chip female pin header will completely cover all pins
on the programmers male pin header header.

- The chip should look like this when hooked up to the programmer

- Its recommended that you flash a Flashbios compatible
with your xbox in then 1st 512k bios bank (bank1 on modchip,
banks 1/2 in programmer software) and the alternate bios
of your choosing in the 2nd 512k bios bank (bank2 on modchip,
banks 3/4 in programmer software)
X2.2lite Modchips
SOFTWARE: X2BM, iXia and X2Cable
SWITCH: YES

- The external switch must be connected and set correctly
for the programmer to be able to program a x2.2lite modchip.
Set external modchip switches to Enabled, Flash protect
disabled, bank 1

- The modchip must sit on the programmer pin header so
that 1 through 12 are covered by the modchip female pin
header

- The chip should look like this when hooked up to the programmer

- Its recommended that you flash a Flashbios compatible
with your xbox in then 1st 512k bios bank (bank1 on modchip,
banks 1/2 in programmer software) and the alternate bios
of your choosing in the 2nd 512k bios bank (bank2 on modchip,
banks 3/4 in programmer software)
Aladdin Live Modchips
SOFTWARE: iXia and X2Cable
SWITCH; N/A

- BT must be grounded for the modchip to be detected in
iXia. See below image with temporary Purple wire between
BT and Pin #2 of pin header. Note this should be removed
and then BT connected as instructed in Aladdin install guides
when modchip is installed in xbox.

- The modchip must sit on the programmer pin header so
that 1 through 12 are covered by the modchip female pin
header.

- The chip should look like this when hooked up to the programmer

- This modchip only has a 256k bios, and therefore you can
only flash a single 256 bios
X2.6 Programmer Steps

The following steps can be used to program a X2.6l modchip
on a X2.6l programmer:
- Power on your computer and boot OS (Operating System)
- Download iXia or X2BM See: Programming
software compatible with X2.6l Programmer
- Prepare bios files to flash
- Plug programmer into LPT port. See How
To Hook up programmer to PC LPT/USB Ports
**No
LEDS active on programmer**
- Plug USB plug into USB port on PC See How
To Hook up programmer to PC LPT/USB Ports
**Should
see orange and Green LEDs on programmer and maybe solid
blue or no blue light at all**

- Connect and configure external switch to modchip if switch
is included with modchip version (note: if your switch is
attached to xbox, then you'll need to move the xbox next
to the programmer attached to the PC so that you can hook
up the switch or remove the switch from the xbox)

- Start up Programming software (X2BM or iXia)
**blue
LED should flash on for about 1/8 of a second every 3/4th
of a second**
- Plug Modchip into programmer (See previous sections
for details on how chips should be hooked up)
**blue
LED should now flash for about 1/16 of a second every 3/4
of a second - IE the blue LED is actually on for less time
than when the chip is not connected to the programmer**
- Mod chip should be detected in programmer software.
A few samples of what to expect are as followed:

- Attempt to read a bios bank from modchip
**When
trying to read/write to the modchip, the Blue LED will be
solid or flashing off (close to a solid blue LED light**
- Load bios(s) into correct banks in programmer software
- Flash to modchip
- Verify flash
- Put modchip back into xbox
- Test modchip to make sure all bios banks boot on xbox
as expected (No DVD or Harddrive is require to test initial
booting of bioses)
- You Can hook the programmer directly up to the LPT port;
or you can use an DB25 Parallel extension cable (male to
female or male to male with a Male to female gender
bender)

Hooking up directly to LPT port
- Stick the programmer in the LPT Port

- Plug USB cable into USB prot

- Connect up Chip
Note: The laptop shown has the LPT port upside down (doh)
so I personally use a Parallel extension cable in real life
and in this FAQ
Hooking up directly to LPT port
- You'll need a DB25 Male to Female Printer cable or a Male
to Male cable with a gender bender (I use the latter)

- Plug Programmer into parallel extension cable

- Plug Parallel cable into LPT port, and USB cable into
USB port

- Move programmer too accessable location
