General
This is a simple guide meant to help trouble shoot issues
with the Xecuter and Xenium solder less adapters on xbox 1.0
to 1.5 versions.
Note: The solder less adapter used in sample pictures has
been through a lot; so just ignore the scorched adapter base,
the replaced Golden D0 Wire (Hey Spider chips are useful after
all), and the resoldered Pin #4 (Was testing to see if a broken
pin could be resoldered ;)
Warning
It is assumed that you are competent in using a soldering
iron, have a understanding of soldering electronics, and practice
safe handling of electronics.
I and XBOX-MODCHIPS.COM cannot be held responsible for poor
judgment, poor workmanship, or damage caused.
If you do not feel comfortable performing any of the recommendations,
then I highly recommend that you look for assistance from
someone who does feel comfortable.
Things that may be required:
Testing
Common
- Make sure that a the RGB AV cable is plugged into the
XBox and TV (HDTV have been known to make people think that
the chip isn't working)
- Make sure the correct channel is set on the TV
- Make sure that there is some form of active LED on the
mod chip.. No active LED may be a sign of a connectivity
issue, a modchip on backwards, or Pin #1 on modchip
not alligned with pin Pin #1 on the Solderless adapter
Xecuter X2.6l - General
- Check to make sure that the external switch is connected
to the modchip as the modchip WILL NOT WORK without the
switches correctly
Xenium Ice - General
- Check to make sure that the Instant boot hasn't been turned
on. You can hold down the eject button instead of the power
button when booting the xbox
- Make sure that the recovery switch (on the modchip) hasn't
been enabled. If the switch is set correctly, then
a black don't isn't visible on the PCB board (where the
switch slides back and forth). Be very careful with
this switch as it can come off very easy. U should
only ever need to flip this switch if the Xenium OS has
failed, and you have no other option to get into recovery
(normally, u just select recovery from the Xenium OS)
- If you have a 1.5 xbox, then you'll need to manually wire
up Ground and 3v3 as the 1.5 xbox have then disconnected
from the LPC pin header bus (note: I believe that
only the 3v3 is actually need for the Xenium)

Next, check the Solderless adapter
- Check that the adapter is seated correctly on the LPC
port and that all pins are aligned correctly

- Use the Rivets (if provided with your Solderless adapter
and your D0 holes are not filled with solder)
- Check that the Golden D0 wire is in the correct D0 Hole
(Note, if the box frags, then the D0 connection is most
likely good - On 1.0 to 1.5 xbox versions)

Check that the modchip is on the solder less adapter correctly
- Check that the modchip is seated correctly. Pin #1 on
the adapter should align up with Pin #1 on the modchip

Xecuter X2.6l (ce)
- On Xecuter 2.6l modchip (may have a white or Red Backing),
the modchip should over hang the adapter towards the back
of the xbox

- X2v6l modchip should look like this from the top (note.
1.0 xbox shown and red modchip backing shown)
- Right side of X2.6l modchip sitting on adapter

- Left side of X2.6l modchip sitting on adapter

- The X2.6lce modchip as looking from the bottom of the
chip upwards

Xenium Ice
- On Xenium Ice modchip, it should look like this from the
top (1.0 xbox shown with Xenium Solderless Adapter)

- The Xenium Ice as seen from the right side of the chip
& solderless adapter

- The Xenium Ice as looking from the bottom of the chip
upwards
Remove solder less adapter from xbox (after removing chip)
- Should you still not be able to get the modchip working,
then the next step is to test the solder less adapter to
ensure that it isn't causing the problem

-
A Multi Meter with a Connectivity/Resistance/continuity
testing function can be used to test the Solderless adapter
out
-
On my meter, I use resistance function,
0 means two points are connected, and 1 means there is
no connectivity as shown below (note: There can be readings
that are not 0 or 1, which means that the two points are
indirectly connected)
-

Test the Golden D0 Wire (with pin#4)
- Tape down the Solderless adapter down with tape
- Test connectivity between pin #4 (red Leed) and the Golden
D0 Wire (Black Leed)
- The expected results are: That Pin #4 and the Golden
D0 Wire will be connected!

- Perform the same sort of test as above; but test connectivity
between the Golden D0 Wire and each top pin.
- Only Pin #4 should have connectivity..
- If any other pin has connectivity (other than Pin #4),
then there may be an issue and you should check the Options
section.
- If there is NO CONNECTIVITY, then look into Test
the Each Pin/Pogo Pin combination section to
verify that the top/bottom connectivity is correct, and
then look into the Fixing
X2.6L or Fixing
Xenium Ice sections depending on what modchip
you've purchased
- Tape down the Solderless adapter down with tape (as shown
below)
- Test for connectivity on each top pin on with its corresponding
pogo pin underneath. There should be to/bottom connectivity
on all pins (except for pin #4 which has no pogo pin underneath)

- Should there be no connectivity between a top pin and
corresponding bottom pogo pin, then attempt to gently wiggle
and push the pogo pin in/out a few time and retest
- If the event that a connectivity issue is found (IE, A
top pin is not connected with its corresponding bottom pin)
then please check out the Options
section:
X3/2.6 using D0 wire direct to motherboard
Note: This install method is just like the one mentioned
in the X2v6l pin header install documentation
- On the x modchips, use the D0 wire that comes with the
mod chip and get it to fit in the top D0 hole (the wire
with the gray bundled with the green and read wire)
- The D0 wire is a gray mult-stran wire and is initially
too thick to fit in the hole
- Cut the tin'ed end off, strip about 4mm of wire plastic
casing
- Undo the stranded wire and cut about 1/3 to 1/2 of the
strands of wire where the protective cover meets the open
wire (as close to the Plastic casing as U don't want loose
wires hanging out)
- Then I re twist the wire back together, and re-tin the
wire
- Then put the do wire in the D0 hole (it should fit snugly
in the d0 hole)
- Then tape the wire down about 1 to 2 inches from where
the wire is put into the D0 point then just heat the wire
and the solder should run into the hole and you should have
a good solid soldered D0 point
- If you've not wired up the HD and Lan Lights then use
electrical tape to tape up each of the Red and Green wires
so that they will not come into contact with anything and
short something out
- Then put the chip back on the solder less adapter
- Then hook up the white plug (attached to the Red/Green/Gray
wire) to the modchip
- Boot xbox (No need to put HD and DVD back in yet) to see
if you can get the Cromwell screen to appear
WARNING: Don't yank on wires that are soldered to the motherboard.
You can damage the board as you can pull off wire traces
** X2.6l Soldered to Golden D0 Wire **

- Remove the modchip from the solder less adapter
- Remove the solder less adapter from the xbox
- If you've not wired up the HD and Lan Lights (Red/Green
wires) then use electrical tape to tape up each of the Red
and Green wires so that they will not come into contact
with anything and short something out
- Take the gray wire and solder it to the base of the golden
D0 wire
- Reinstall solder less adapter into xbox
- Plug modchip back into solder less adapter
- Plug white plug (attached to red/green/gray wire) into
mod chip (it'll only fix in 1 spot, 1 way)
- Boot xbox (No need to put HD and DVD back in yet) to see
if you can get the Cromwell screen to appear
** X-ice soldered wire to D0 point on Motherboard**
Note: This install method is just like the one mentioned
in the Xenium Ice pin header install documentation
- Get a fine piece of of solid wire with protective coating
about 23 CM long.. Think 30 awg will do it
- Trim off about 4 mm of plastic coating on each end of
the chip
- Tin the wires by heating the exposed areas up and applying
a little bit of solder
- You may have to trim 1 wire tip (the one that's going
into the d0 hole) with a wire cutter should solder be built
up at the end of the wire
- Install the D0 wire into the correct D0 hole on the top
of the the mother board (make sure you have the right one
for your version of xbox)
- Tape down the wire about 1'1/2" from where the d0 wire
is inserted into the hole
- Heat the wire and the edge of the D0 hole (wire should
be in the hole) and some solder should stick to the d0 hole
and make a better connection (Try not to apply heat for
too long (maybe 5 secs)
- Install the modchip on the Solderless adapter
- Press the unsoldered end of the D0 Wire onto the D0 pad
on top of the xbox and then touch the wire with the soldering
iron.. The solder on the wire and the d0 pad should melt
within about 5 secs.. Remove the soldering iron once the
solder has liquefied and the wire is joined with the solder
pad
- Boot xbox an pray
WARNING: Don't yank on wires that are soldered to the motherboard.
You can damage the board as you can pull off wire traces
** X-ice Using Blue/Black Wire no solder **
Note: This method is the least desirable; but will allow
you by past the Golden D0 Wire completely without soldering
anything. The D0 wire could fall out and short
something out. It's highly recommended that you solder
a D0 wire, or use the Golden D0 wire.
- Remove modchip from solderless adapter
- Gently remove the Golden D0 wire from the D0 hole on the
motherboard (be very careful with this wire as it will brake
if you use excessive force)
- Tape tip of golden D0 Wire so that can't accidentally
connect with anything else using electrical tape. You can
also gently bend the Golden D0 wire up off the xbox mother
board by holding near the base of the golden d0 wire with
a pair of plyers and gently bending the golden D0 wire up
a bit.
- Locate blue(d0)/Black(ground) wire with white plug on
1 end
- Tape the black wire up with electrical tape (so t wont
accidentally touch and short anything out
- Plug the blue/black wire into the mod chip.. it'll only
fit in 1 place and one way (the plug should be on the corner
and there's a bump in the plug on one side and a matching
one in the plug
- Plug modchip into solder less adapter
- If your lucky, the Blue D0 wire should fit in the D0 hole
(it'll be tight). If it doesn't fit, then you'll need to
use a pin to enlarge the hole in ever so slight increments
until the blue wire fits)
- Then tape the D0 wire down to the motherboard using some
electrical tape
- Boot xbox (No need to put HD and DVD back in yet) to see
if you can get the Xenium OS screen to appear
** X-ice Blue Soldered to Golden D0 Wire **

- Remove the modchip from the solderless adapter
- Gently remove the Golden D0 wire from the D0 hole on the
motherboard (be very careful with this wire as it will brake
if you use excessive force)
- Remove the solderless adapter from the xbox
- Take the blue/black wire (with the open leeds on one end
and the little white plug on the other end), and tape the
black wire using electrical tape (so it don't short anything
out).
- Take the blue wire and solder it to the base of the golden
D0 wire (where the Golden D0 wire attaches to the solderless
adapter)
- Reinstall solderless adapter into xbox (including installing
the Golden D0 wire to the correct D0 point, on the motherboard,
for your version of xbox
- Plug modchip back into the solderless adapter
- Plug white plug (attached to blue/black wire) into mod
chip (it'll only fit in 1 spot, 1 way)
- Boot xbox (No need to put HD and DVD back in yet) to see
if you can get the Xenium OS screen to appear
If your in this section, then you you've most likely located
an issue with your solder less adapter and were:
- Scared to solder and don't know anyone who can solder
- The adapter issue is not easily fixable problem (IE multiple
Connectivity with the D0 and Pins)
Your options are as followed:
- X2.6l & Xenium Ice: Install Pin header
- X2.6l: Install wire install
- Xenium Ice: Install quick solder (not recommended)
- Return solder less adapter for a replacement
Note: All RMA'ed products are fully tested at www.xbox-modchips.com,,
